I must stop looking at sites like these!! I now have a new item on my wishlist.... So learning evanescence tab. The train raced towards the docks to meet the awaiting ships that stood ready to take their esteemed passengers on their onward journey. A smartly dressed servant knocked politely on the door to the Duke and Duchess Gifford’s cabin and entered with a silver tray filled with refreshments and light bites and the Duchess raised a finger to her lips and indicated the sleeping Duke, though it would have been hard not to be aware of his slumber, such was the sound of his snoring. The servant smiled and nodded then stepped lightly and left the tray, closing the door silently behind him. Amelia glanced at her sleeping husband-of-convenience and returned her attention back to the battered journal in her small hands. She turned to the section her father had so carefully labelled ‘Spirits of the ether’ and began to write in the spare pages available. ‘As excited as I was to be privy to the unveiling of a supposed ‘Ray Gun’ I was fully aware that the night was to be one of politics and keeping up appearances, and indeed it was. Duke Gifford wasted no time in making his introductions, leaving myself and the good Captain to peruse the displayed items in the remote laboratory. Many items excited me, none more so than the Faraday crystal, but I believe I feigned disinterest well. Others were less discrete and choice items were pilfered as the night went on, something I was unexpecting from such noble ranks. Finally the display was ready but, to our horror, the scientists unveiled a walking dead man, powered by the storm outside and as mobile as a living being. As the lightning sparked across the dying scientists black hearts, the beast fled, no doubt perishing on the mountain below. Shortly afterwards the ghosts began to arrive.’ “Everythin’ fine here Miss Amy?” Amelia jumped and looked up to see the Captain in the doorway. She had been so lost in her memories that she had not heard him enter. “All is well Captain. Pray join us.” She glanced at her sleeping husband and the Captain smiled and took a seat opposite her. He gave her a sly wink and removed his hat. Amelia felt her heart melt and looked back to the journal rapidly to cover her blushes. ‘We seemed to be in no harm at the time, yet as the evening progressed it was clear that action needed to be taken. There was no escape as the weather turned to storm and the strange train that had raised us up the mountain was departed. An amulet was the cause of the haunting, and had to be destroyed to save every life there. We had to construct our own ray gun and quickly. Panic and dread began to grip us all and I knew I could hide my unfeminine interests no longer, regardless of my new position in society. I rushed to aid those gathered with the components we required, a containment device, the missing crystal, a focusing coil of copper and a lightning rod in place of a capacitor. Oh how I longed for my workshop as we used all manner of items, including my own velvet gloves, to hold the device together. Finally it was made, but not without casualties. A woman wailed over the body of her poor dead sister. I feel for her loss. One brave soul stood forth and used what can only be described as a human personal flight device to fly the rod to the roof, whilst Gifford’s own Colour Sergeant held the coil steady. Moments later the amulet was no more and the dread was lifted. It was most intriguing. I slipped away from the other engineers before I was noticed, as they argued over who would keep the device. All I had to show for my part was some slightly singed gloves and a sense of a job well done.’ Amelia smiled at her account and then slipped a sketch within the pages. She stowed the book away and then looked to the Captain. “I need a little exercise Captain. Would you accompany me for a stroll?” Her mischievous smile said more than her words ever could.I Am A: Neutral Good GnomeRanger/Sorcerer (3rd/2nd Level) Feeling all bleugh and coughy...think the germs have regrouped and are trying a new tactic. Karaoke was cancelled at one pub and the night altered at another so we spent the evening as pretty much the soul audience to a guy and his guitar. Somehow Don still wangled singing and Rob air-guitared whilst we watched (and I filmed, lol; now to work out how to utube it *giggles*). |
